  | | | Two Questions on Taroon (Timezone, Java related) | Two Questions on Taroon (Timezone, Java related) 2004-03-31 - By Binand Sethumadhavan
Back Hi All,
The first is a simple question. How do I change the timezone of a Taroon
machine? On Valhalla, I used to do
timeconfig US/Eastern
Now, on Taroon, this command brings up a newt-based UI (with no option
to select US/Eastern). I can see
-rw-r--r-- 5 root root 1267 Sep 25 2003 /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Eastern
but can 't set it :( I did try to edit /etc/sysconfig/clock
(ZONE= "US/Eastern ") and reboot - but still no effect. My current timezone
is Asia/Calcutta, I need to change this to US/Eastern.
The second question: We run a custom Java application on Sun JDK 1.3.1_03
(and upgrades in that series) on Valhalla. Now, which Sun JDK version
should we use:
1. To utilize the full potential of Taroon (NPTL).
2. During the transition phase (so that bugs/races etc. can be fixed,
without going for NPTL in one jump).
Thanks,
Binand
